KfW Student Loan Agreement: Frequently Asked Questions and Clear Answers
1. Is it an error if my matriculation number is not included in the contract?
Rest assured, the inclusion of your matriculation number in the contract is purely optional. Even without providing the matriculation number, you can still proceed with signing the contract. We do not transmit the matriculation number to KfW, so it will not affect the validity or processing of your loan application.
2. What should I do if my telephone number in the contract differs from the one I provided in the application?
If your telephone number is listed differently in the contract, there's no need to worry. The telephone number is transferred to the contract along with the respective country code. For example, if your number is indicated after "0049" (without the initial zero), it is correct, as it includes the German country code. In such cases, you can sign the contract without any changes.
However, if there is a different error in the number or if you prefer to provide an alternative number, please contact us via live chat or email, and we'll be happy to assist you.
3. What should I do if my address is incorrect or I want to choose a different address for correspondence?
Your registered address has to match the address shown on your uploaded documents, such as your ID card or registration certificate. However, we understand that you may need to specify a different address for correspondence.
Depending on the status of your application, please proceed as follows:
Whilst filling in your data (you have not generated your contract yet), you can add an alternative address on this page by selecting the option "Möchtest du eine andere Adresse für den Schriftverkehr angeben?".
Once you have generated the contract, but you did not complete the online legitimation yet, please reach out to us via Live chat or email for assistance.
After your application has been completed and sent to KfW, you will need to reach out to KfW directly via phone at 0800 539 9003 or online through their contact page.
4. What should I do if the duration stated in my contract is incorrect?
The KfW Student Loan is designed to cater specifically to the needs of students and is not bound by a fixed contract duration. Instead, it operates based on a maximum disbursement period, as mentioned in section 1.3 of your contract. You have the flexibility to determine the actual duration by extending the disbursement period one semester at a time through the submission of your current enrollment certificate.
Furthermore, after your first semester of funding, you have the option to adjust the monthly disbursement amount, ranging from €100 to €650, directly through the KfW loan portal. This level of customization allows you to align your loan with your financial needs throughout your studies.
It's important to note that once you've completed your studies, you can terminate the disbursements yourself directly through the KfW loan portal. This transition will move your student loan from the disbursement phase to the grace period and, ultimately, to the repayment phase.
5. Do I need to pay interest on the KfW Student Loan? If so, how much are the interest rates?
Yes, interest is charged on the KfW Student Loan. For detailed information about the conditions and current interest rates, we recommend visiting the KfW website and referring to the "Konditionen" section.
As of now, the effective interest rate stands at 9.01 % until March 31, 2024. However, please keep in mind that the interest rates are redefined each semester and may decrease in the future.
Should you have any specific questions regarding interest rates or any other concerns, feel free to reach out to the toll-free hotline of KfW at any time: 0800 539 9003.
6. What is the maximum duration for availing the KfW Student Loan?
The maximum disbursement period, stated in section 1.3 of your contract, defines the timeline for the KfW Student Loan. However, if you complete your studies before reaching that duration, your loan will transition from the disbursement phase to the grace period as you won't be able to extend the loan any longer.
Additionally, starting from your first semester of funding, you can terminate the disbursements on a monthly basis.
7. How does the contract signature process work?
At deineStudienfinanzierung, we offer a streamlined and entirely digital application process. Once you have created and reviewed the contract, all that remains is to perform an online identification.
This online identification serves as your digital signature, eliminating the need for a traditional signature. Once you've completed this step successfully, we will promptly send your application to KfW for further processing.
